Former University of Akron standout Kara Murphy is in her first year as an assistant coach on Coach Warluft’s staff. She will assist the varsity and serve as Walsh’s Junior Varsity Coach.

Murphy finished her Akron career as the school’s all-time scoring leader with 1,777 points and started 123 consecutive games. She holds the program marks for scoring in a season (580), free throws in a season (166), free throws in a career (480), and is third in career three-pointers (127). She also finished her career ninth in career rebounds (630). Murphy earned All-Mid-American Conference honors in each of her four years, including first-team and All-MAC Tournament accolades in 2009-10.

She prepped at Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary High School and graduated in 2007 and served as an assistant at her alma mater in 2011.

This past January, she signed a professional contract with Umea Comets of the Swedish Damligan - the most competitive women’s league in Sweden. She joined the team for the second half of the season.

Murphy earned her undergraduate degree from Akron in 2011 in child and family development. She is also a certified personal trainer. She resides in Uniontown.
