LRC Students with Disabilities

Walsh University's Learning Resource Center is committed to seeing that every student gets the most out of his or her education. To that end, we are pleased to provide the following academic/instructional modifications to students whose learning disability or physical disability status has been verified through the Office of Counseling Services or the Office of Student Support Services:
  • Access to a list of volunteer readers
  • Confidential professor/staff notification of disability status and appropriate accommodation(s)
  • Note taking modifications:
    • Permission to use a cassette-tape recorder
    • Permission to use a laptop computer
    • Assistance in getting a copy of another student's notes
  • Testing modifications:
    • Extended time
    • Separate, quiet location
    • Reader/writer
    • Use of word processor/word processing program
    • Use of aids during testing (calculator, dictionary, spell-checker)
  • Permission to use auxiliary aids and equipment
  • Preferred seating
To take advantage of these services, contact the Office of Counseling Services (if you have a learning disability) or the Office of Student Support Services (if you have a physical disability) to begin the verification process.

Once this process is completed, those offices will send official verification of the disability status to the student and to the LRC, at which time the student may come to the LRC and request that his or her accommodation(s) be delivered.

Since the time frame for this process varies, it is suggested that the process be started as soon as possible after the student has been admitted to the University.

If you have any questions, e-mail the LRC Director, Ryan Sweet, or phone him at 330/490-7234.

Students with physical disabilities should e-mail Ellen Kutz, Director of Student Support Services, or call her at 330/490-7302 for further information regarding physical accommodations.
