BASEBALL: Cavs (26-26, 15-9 AMC N) at Malone for AMC Qualifying Playoff

Walsh (26-26, 15-9 AMC N) travels to Malone College (34-15, 17-7) on Thursday (11 am), for the American Mideast Conference Qualifying Tournament.  The teams play best of three series, with the winner advancing to the NAIA Region IX Tournament next week (May 11-12).  The two teams play a doubleheader on Thursday and play Friday if necessary.  Malone took three out of four games from the Cavs in the regular season.

GOLF: Cavs (38-9-2) Finish Fourth at NAIA Region IX Championships

Walsh (38-9-2) finished fourth at the NAIA Region IX Championships, held at Apple Valley Golf Course in Mount Vernon, Ohio last weekend.  The Cavs shot 932 and finished 47 strokes behind Malone College (885).  Ohio Dominican (907) finished second and Tiffin University third (925).  Chris Sigler (Sr., Wooster, OH/Triway) finished 17th with a two-day total of 233 (83-75-76).  David Brodie (Jr., Newton Stewart, Scotland/Douglas Ewart) finished right behind Sigler with a 234 (82-76-76).  David Russell (Jr., Glasgow, Scotland/Cumbernauld) finished 27th with a 236(84-76-76) and David Rose (Jr., Marietta, OH/HS) placed 28th with a 236(75-78-83).  Sam Troyer (Fr., Sugarcreek, OH/Garaway) shot 241 (80-81-80) and finished 44th.

SOFTBALL: Cavs (15-23, 6-8) Make AMC Playoff with Win at Cedarville

Walsh (15-23, 6-8 AMC S) traveled more than three hours to Cedarville University on Saturday to play two innings and came away with a spot in the American Mideast Conference Qualifying Tournament.  Nicole Offenbecher (Fr., Massillon, OH/Washington) drove in Rebecca Adkison (Sr., Manchester, OH/Archbishop Hoban) with the winning run in the top of the 10th inning, to lift Walsh to a 4-2 win, and into the post season.  Dana Hartings (So., Chickasaw, OH/Marion Local) picked-up the win.  The two teams picked-up the game in the top of the ninth inning, with the scored tied at 2-2, after darkness halted play at Cedarville on March 29.   Walsh now travels to the University of Rio Grande (31-16, 3-2) on Thursday for a best of three series.  Game time for Thursday's doubleheader is 3:30 pm.  The final game will be play on Friday, if necessary.  Rio Grande finished as co-division champs in the AMC South.  Walsh and the Redwomen split a doubleheader earlier.  Rio Grande won game one 11-9 and the Cavs the nightcap 3-2.

MEN'S TENNIS: Cavs (14-5, 8-0) Face Malone/Tiffin Winner is NAIA Region IX/X Tournament

Top-seeded Walsh (14-5, 8-0) is hoping to capture another regional championship, when they meet the winner of the Malone College/Tiffin University match on Thursday in the semifinals of the NAIA Region IX/X Tournament.  The Cavs play at 1 pm at Harvard Courts in Canton.  The Cavs have won ten conference championships in the last eleven years and have made nine straight NAIA National Championship appearances.

Number one singles player Stephen Webster (So., Lexington, OH/HS) is 13-6 on the season, and has won seven of his last eight matches.  Sean Smith (Jr., Edgewater, NY/Bradenton Academy) is 12-7 at second singles and has won six of his last seven matches.  Joe Grande (Jr., North Canton, OH/Hoover) is 9-6 at third singles; Greg Kerschbaum (So., Elyria, OH/HS) is 13-2 at fourth singles and has won 15 of his last 16 matches.   Andy Coutts (Jr., New Philadelphia, OH/HS) is 7-3 at fifth singles and Nick Grahame (Jr., North Canton, OH/St. Thomas Aquinas) is 8-3 at sixth singles and 5-4 at fifth singles.

WOMEN'S TENNIS: Cavs (10-7, 3-2) Fall Cedarville, Miss Playoffs

Walsh (11-6, 3-2) lost its only match last week, 5-4 to Cedarville University on Friday.  The loss cost the Cavs a berth in the NAIA Region IX/X Tournament.  Walsh won the tournament last year and advanced to the NAIA Nationals. 

Number one singles player, Kristen Cady (Jr., Canton, OH/GlenOak) finished the season 7-9 in the top position and 7-10 overall.  Freshman Jenamrie Ianni (North Canton, OH/Hoover) finished 12-4 at second singles and 12-5 overall.  Cady and Ianni were 9-6 at number one doubles.  Lindsey Cady (Fr., Canton, OH/GlenOak) finished her first season 6-11 at third singles, Kaylyn Moyer (Sr., Ravenna, OH/HS) completed her Walsh career 7-5 at fourth singles. Ingrid Brainard (Jr., Madison, OH/HS) went undefeated at (12-0) at fifth singles and finished 13-2 overall.  Lindsey Cady and Brainard finished 8-6 at second doubles.  Moyer and Lauren Akkerman (Fr., Ashland, OH/HS) went 7-3 at third doubles, while Akkerman also went 4-1 at sixth singles.  Megan Navarre (So., Indianapolis, IN/Center Grove) finished 9-4 playing fourth, fifth and sixth singles and Kelly Dehn (So. Powell, OH/Olentangy) is 3-3 in singles and 2-0 in doubles play.

MEN'S TRACK: Cavs Qualifies 4x800 Relay Team for NAIA Nationals

Walsh qualified its 4x800 relay team for the NAIA National Championships at the Hillsdale Relays this past weekend.  Joel Dagenhardt (Sr., Marlington, OH/HS), Brandon McKee (Fr., Akron, OH/St. Vincent-St. Mary) Steve Mackle (Sr., Malvern, OH/HS) and Chris Zundel (Jr., Madison, OH/HS) make-up the team, which qualified in a time of 7:51.04).

The Cavs are at the Al Campbell Open at the University of Akron this Saturday.

The Cavs are at the Al Campbell Open at the University of Akron this Saturday.  Campbell, the Walsh head coach since 1999, was the head coach at the University of Akron from 1968 until 1995.
