Walsh University Director of Athletics Dale Howard has announced that Jason Fautas has been hired to direct the men’s lacrosse program. Walsh is a member of NCAA II (candidacy year two) and the Eastern College Athletic Conference Division II Lacrosse League for men’s lacrosse. The league will begin play with the 2013 season.  Fautas replaces Ron Meiser who coached the squad for three years as a club sport.

“As the men’s lacrosse program at Walsh transitions into the NCAA II and the ECAC lacrosse league, Walsh is excited to welcome Jason as our first full-time lacrosse coach,” exclaimed Howard.  “Having played and coached lacrosse at some of the highest levels, Jason brings the necessary experience and passion to elevate the program to the next level.  He is a coach who can hit the ground running and has already been very active in laying the groundwork for the upcoming year.”

I look forward to working with the student-athletes of Walsh University to build a competitive environment not only the lacrosse field, but as well as in the classroom."Fautas earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in management from Hartwick College in 2007 and proceeded to earn his master’s degree in sports leadership at Northeastern University in 2008.

For the past five years, Fautas has worked as an assistant lacrosse coach at the college level. He started his coaching career as an assistant coach at Hartwick in Oneonta, N.Y. following his graduation and remained there until 2010 when he became the First Assistant Coach and defensive coordinator at Division I Lafayette College in Easton, Pa. Fautas accepts his first head coaching job here at Walsh University.

During his playing career, Fautas was a four-year varsity member and team captain in 2006 and 2007. In 2006, he was the Empire 8 Sportsman of the Year. In 2007, he was the Harry Mosher Memorial Award and Rich Allen Dawkins Award winner.He was also a three-sport athlete at Sachem High School, in Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y.
