Artist P.R. Miller to Speak on Recycling and Art, March 12

On Wednesday, March 12, Akron artist P.R. Miller will speak at Walsh University about the importance of recycling and how it impacts his artwork. Miller’s talk will be held in Walsh University’s Barrette Business Center, Room C, at 9:15pm. The event is free and open to the public.

Invited to campus by the student run Art and Environmental clubs, Miller’s talk is expected to inspire and better inform students in their pursuit of an eco-friendly collaborative sculpture. P.R. Miller, also known as the “Grizzled Wizard,” transforms discarded items that most perceive as junk into whimsical interpretations like oversized flowers and larger-than-life frogs.

"P. R. Miller has an extraordinary ability to blend conservation of the beauty of earth with the creation of artistic beauty, in the form of 3-dimensional art from the less beautiful earthly things,” said student Brian Stozewski. “ As the president of Walsh's Art Club I look forward to experiencing firsthand P. R. Miller's passion for transforming trash into treasure."

P.R. Miller recently installed one of his fanciful metal frogs in front of the library in Akron’s Highland Square area. He is currently the artist in residence at Stan Hywet Hall, and an exhibit of his artwork will open on the Thursday evening following the Walsh lecture at Stan Hywet’s Carriage House.

At his March 12 lecture at Walsh, Miller will show a video called “The Story of Stuff” and discuss the ways in which he helps to battle our country’s problem with consumption and waste through his creative sculptures. As an advocate for recycling, the artist frequently visits public schools and lectures about the importance of reusing materials.
