FOOTBALL: Cavs (6-2, 4-1) Geneva Stuns Cavs 21-20 in OT/Play Thursday at Home

NAIA No. 11 Walsh (6-2, 4-1) had its six-game winning streak snapped, with a 21-20 overtime loss to Geneva College in a Mid-States Football Association Mideast game, played Saturday in the rain at Fawcett Stadium.  The loss was the first for the Cavs in MSFA Mideast play and will surely drop them in the next NAIA top 25 (released today).  Walsh will have to bounce back quickly, as the host Webber International this Thursday at 7 pm at Fawcett Stadium.  The game will be broadcast live on the Walsh University Football Network on 900 AM WCER, 1350 AM WARF and on the internet at www.wcer.us. Anyone holding a ticket to Saturday's McKinley/Massillon game at Fawcett Stadium, can gain free admission to the Webber game by showing that ticket at the gate.

Walsh led Geneva 14-0 on a pair of two-yard runs, one by Antwain Reine' (So., Dayton, OH/Trotwood Madison) at the 5:34 mark of the first quarter and the second by Dustin Stewart (Fr., Ravenna, OH/Southeast), at the 6:42 mark of the second quarter. Geneva came back with a score late in the half (1:24) and trailed 14-7 at halftime. Walsh added to their lead in the third quarter, when Reine' scored from the two-yards out, but had the score nullified because of a motion penalty.  They then failed to add points when Arthur Zurcher (Fr., New Philadelphia, OH/HS) had a field goal attempt blocked.  After a scoreless third period, Geneva drove 89 yards to tie the game with 31 seconds to play, when back-up quarterback Matt Brown connected with Bam Harmon on fourth and six from the Walsh 14-yard line for the game tying score.  After Zach Blair tied the game with the point after, Walsh took a knee after the kickoff to send the game to overtime.

Walsh took the lead in the overtime on Reine's third touchdown of the game, a three-yard run.  But Zurcher missed the extra-point and Walsh led 20-14.  Geneva scored the tying TD on third and ten from the Walsh 15-yard line, when Brown hit Harmon for 15-yard score.  Zach Blair then kicked the extra point to provide the winning margin.

Walsh's Antwain Reine' rushed for 121 yards and went over 1,000 yards (1,046) for the season. The Cavs have had a back rush for at least 1,000 yards in ten of Head Coach Jim Dennison's eleven years at Walsh.

Walsh and NAIA No. 18 Webber International (5-1), from Babson Park, FL, meet for the first time under the lights at Fawcett Stadium on Thursday.  Hurricane Wilma forced Webber to cancel its scheduled game with Allen University last Saturday.  The Warriors last game was a 20-18 win over North Greenville on October 15.  The Warriors have won their last five games.
