Opening Weekend for Freshmen

The weekend prior to the first full week of fall classes is called "Opening Weekend." During Opening Weekend, incoming students engage in a variety of social activities, participate in an orientation for their major*, and are introduced to their GE100/110 course. GE100/110 is a series of small group meetings led by a specifically trained and selected instructor. GE100/110 continues to meet weekly during the first semester and those meetings are opportunities for real-life, hands-on discussions. Typically, discussion and activities center on such topics as college survival skills, diversity, responsible decision-making, career development, academic support systems, justice and peace issues, and healthy relationships. All incoming freshmen students are required to participate in all Opening Weekend 2014 events unless otherwise noted.
