Doctor of Physical Therapy

Building Vital Professionals

Welcome to the Doctor of Physical Therapy degree program at Walsh University. Physical Therapy is one of the fastest growing and most rewarding careers in the United States.  As one of only 210 fully accredited programs in the country, our program provides a unique curriculum which prepares students to become competent, caring and compassionate practitioners.

We accomplish this by incorporating a format that prepares the student physical therapist to understand and meet the challenges of today's various treatment approaches in diagnosis, prevention, and management of neuromuscular dysfunction. We offer state-of-the-art facilities, hands-on clinical experience opportunities throughout the entire U.S., and an outstanding faculty dedicated to preparing student practitioners to be successful in their field.

Your interest in our professional Doctor of Physical Therapy degree program signifies your quest for quality and opportunity.  You will find them at Walsh University.  During your visit to our website, I encourage you to critically evaluate our program and compare us with other physical therapy programs.

We invite you to discover the excellence of our program in the areas of curriculum, facilities, clinical education sites, and professional physical therapy faculty.  You will find that the success of our recent graduating classes (Class of 2004 through 2006) confirms the quality of our program. Our outcomes boast more than 98% of students (average for past three years) finding a position in their field within six months of graduation. This doctoral degree also qualifies every graduate to apply for the licensure exam in all 50 states, Puerto Rico and Guam.100% of the class graduating in 2006 passed the licensure exam on their first attempt.

We, the physical therapy program’s faculty members, students, and staff, welcome the opportunity to tell you about the profession and our program.  Physical therapists, here in the US, have helped persons with movement dysfunction, from any cause; regain their ability to move about in their environment for over 80 years.   Current practice of physical therapy has evolved from that of the reconstruction aide who early in this century assisted wounded soldiers to regain their ability to walk through therapeutic exercise.  Physical therapists today focus their practice on the prevention, and diagnosis and management of neuromuscular dysfunction.

The primary challenge that faces physical therapists in this millennium lies in their ability to justify the treatment approaches they use in the care of their patients—what health care professions call evidenced-based practice.  Walsh University’s physical therapy program incorporates a case study format into selected courses that uniquely prepare the student physical therapist to meet the challenge of evidence-based practice. The core of the case study approach lies in a rigorous, highly structured student-centered learning process.

We believe that you as an applicant make more decisions in the admission process than a given program makes.  While we, the program admission committee, make the decision whether or not to offer you a seat in our class, you decide first whether you will apply to our program.  You then determine if we should offer you admission, whether you will attend our program.  Because we believe this occurs, we think we should provide you with as much information as possible throughout the admission process.

We hope the information we provide on our web pages assists you in your decision-making process.  Please visit all of the links we have prepared for your review.  Please also know that this web page undergoes constant “construction?to bring you the latest and most important information regarding our program.

Sincerely,

Christopher Petrosino, PT, PhD
