Freshman Year
n Meet with your pre-law advisor.
n Begin the process of selecting a major.
n Continue to choose classes that will help you master skills in critical reading, analytical and logical reasoning, and writing.
n Be aware of your GPA. Dropping below a 3.0 limits your options in the legal field. More competitive programs require a 3.5 or better.
n Begin to think of whom you would like to write your recommendations. Establish a relationship with these individuals.
Junior Year
n Contact a pre-law advisor to discuss the LSAT and a legal internship.
n Plan on taking the LSAT test in June following your junior year or in October of your senior year.
n Continue to choose classes that will help you master skills in critical reading, analytical and logical reasoning, and writing.
n Begin visits to law schools after your junior year.
Senior Year
n Take the LSAT (preferably by October).
n See a pre-law advisor to discuss law school applications.
n Get letters of recommendations.
n Write your personal statement and have it edited by the pre-law advisor.
n Apply to law school at least two weeks prior to the application due date.
n Check out financial aid.
