May 2020

Christine McCallum was elected to the position of Vice-Chair of the Academy of Physical Therapy Education (APTE).  This is a 3 year term which begins in July 2020.  She was also appointed to represent APTE as one of three voting representatives to the Educational Leadership Partnership (ELP).

DPT student Daniela Ortenzi has been named the outstanding senior in the honors program for 2020.  Dr. Jaime Paz is her academic advisor and reader for her project titled “The Impact of Inpatient Physical Therapy Intervention on Adults with Cystic Fibrosis: A Retrospective Case Series.”

January 2020

Drs. Chalee Engelhard (University of Cincinnati) Christine McCallum and Leigh Murray are recipients of a 2020 Academy of Physical Therapy Education Educational Research Grant.  The project title is: Assessing the Director of Clinical Education roles/responsibilities task fit impact: A Delphi Study. The grant, in the amount of $9187.75, will be base out of the University of Cincinnati Physical Therapy program.

Dr. Toni Doty is presenting a full day course in Columbus, at the School Based Practitioner’s Summit, on August 5, 2019. The title of her presentation is: The Role of Related Service Providers in Supporting Students Transitioning to Adulthood.

Christine McCallum is serving on the 2018 Educational Leadership Conference Programming Committee.

Christine McCallum was selected to serve as participant in the National Clinical Education Strategic Planning group. She will lead the Clinical Education Research Agenda Subgroup. The group will meet at APTA in October 2018. It is an 18 month commitment.

Christine McCallum is representing the NCCE (ACAPT) in the first dual collaborative project with the Clinical Education SIG (APTA). She is co-leading the development of a Clinical Education Placement Process Taskforce, which will investigate the future of clinical education student placements and make recommendations to ACAPT and the Academy of Physical Therapy Education.

On March 25, 2017, over 100 students from multiple institutions attended the Interprofessional Education Session at Northeast Ohio Medical University (NEOMED). Walsh DPT had 23 students from the Class of 2018 participate.

Abbey Schory, Erik Bidinger, Josh Wolf, and Dr. Murray presented "A systematic review of the exercises that facilitate maximal muscle activation and produce optimal ratio levels of the scapular stabilizers (upper trapezius, middle trapezius, lower trapezius, and serratus anterior) in normal shoulders" as a poster at the 2015 OPTA Fall conference.

Dr. Toni Doty is presenting for APTA again at "Innovations in School Based PT Conference" in San Juan Capistrano, CA from July 24-26. She will then fly back to Wash DC to present at the Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP) conference (7/27-28) on the Role of PT/OT as related service providers in schools.

Drew Junak, DPT class 2016, has been appointed as an APTA Student Brand Champion and is also running for the position of President of the APTA Student Assembly.
