Student Life and Services > What does the Office of Multicultural Affairs do?

Campus Programming

The Office of Multicultural Affairs provides University programming that includes, but is not limited to, the following: Native American History Month, Diversity Week, Hispanic Heritage Month, Black History Month, Women’s History Month, and Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

Academic Support

The Office of Multicultural Affairs serves as a departmental liaison to the Academic Support Center (Tutoring Center) and assists students academically through the following:

Multicultural Student Orientation
The Multicultural Student Orientation aims to start preparing incoming minority students for academic, social, and personal success at Walsh University. Students are introduced to minority faculty members and staff members that have chosen to serve as campus advocates during their years at Walsh University. There is also an introduction into available academic and community resources (Academic Support Center, Career Center, Office of the Registrar, etc.).

Book Loan and Book Voucher Program
The Book Loan and Book Voucher Program are emergency services available for students who are unable to purchase textbooks for the academic term.  Please contact the Coordinator of Multicultural Affairs for details.

Academic Progress Sessions
The Office has an open-door policy that encourages students to discuss academic issues and difficulties. The Coordinator serves as an advocate for students who are experiencing academic difficulties by connecting them to appropriate services and resources.

Fireside Chats
Collaborating with Multicultural Academic Services, Fireside Chats are informal sessions that provide an opportunity for students to discuss the challenges and successes related to their Walsh University experience. Representatives from a number of Walsh University departments are regularly invited to share important facts about such topics as financial aid, career development, tutoring, and counseling.  Students attending the sessions will gain a wealth of knowledge and an understanding of the tools to succeed academically.

Student Organization Advising

The Coordinator of Multicultural Affairs advises the student organizations The Black Student Union and Golden Touch, working closely with the elected student leaders to facilitate the leadership development of its members and provide an outlet for student expression and activism.
