Ultimate Frisbee Rules

Game Information:
- Only Walsh students, faculty, staff, and alumni are eligible to play.
- Only players on the official team roster may participate in the game.
- After 2 games, the roster is locked and no more players can be added.
- Players are allowed to play on only one team per sport's league.
- All jewelry must be removed.
- All players are required to have a signed waiver of liability on file with Intramurals for the current sport.
- Ultimate Frisbee is a non-contact sport with 8 players on the field at once for a team. The roster can hold up to 12 people per team. The object of the game is to score goals. The disc may only be moved by passing, as the thrower is not allowed to take any steps. Any time a pass is incomplete, intercepted, knocked down, or contacts an out of bounds area, a turn over occurs, resulting in an immediate change of possession of the disc. A goal is scored when a player successfully passes the disc to a teammate in the end zone, which that team is attacking.
- This is an open league and there are no required number of males or females per team.
- The game will consist of two-15 minute halves with a running clock the whole time.
- Overtime will consist of three minutes of running clock.
- Each goal scored is worth one point.
- A coin toss will determine who wants disc first or what end zone they want to defend.
- The disc may be passed in any direction in bounds. If the person with the disc is stalling, the defender will count out loud 1 to 10 seconds and if the disc is not thrown by 10, the disc is turned over.
- The player's first contact with the ground after catching the disc determines whether he/she is in or out. The line is out. The first point of contact must be all the way in and this includes the end zones.
- When the disc goes out of bounds, play is resumed where it crossed the line. If it goes out the back of the end zone, walk to the closet spot on the end line.
- To start off, both teams must line up at or behind their respective goal lines. Each team raises a hand to signal ready; then throw.
- Throwing team gains possession if the receiving team touches the disc in the air and drops it.
- If the throw off lands out of bounds, the receiving team has a choice of taking the disc on the sideline, where it went out, or in the middle of the field at the point where it went out. If the throw off goes out of the back of the end zone, the receiving team starts play at the five yard line.
- If you gain possession in the end zone you are defending, you may either take the disc where it stopped, or walk it up straight to the goal line and take it there.
- Fouls are the result of physical contact between opposing players. A foul can be called by the player who was fouled and it must be called immediately after the occurrence.
- All fouls result in a re-throw, after a "check" of the disc, except if a foul pass is completed, the foul is declined and play continues.
- Defenders can not be within 3 feet of the person with the disc.
- The thrower must keep part of the pivot foot in contact with a single spot on the field. Loosing contact with that spot or taking more steps than needed after receiving a pass is a travel.
- A player's momentum may not carry them into the end zone. The disc must be placed outside of the end zone in bounds and thrown in.
- No defensive player may strip or take the disc while in the hands of the thrower.
- No defensive player can double team someone with the disc unless another offensive player is within 3 feet of the thrower.
- Each team is allowed one-60 second time out per half.
- All players should avoid contact in any way possible. No picks are allowed. And all players have a right to the space above them. A defensive player may not obstruct space directly above the receiver. When the disc is in the air, players should play the disc, not the opponent.
- Unsportsmanlike behavior will not be tolerated and persons involved may be subject to ejection from the game or league and may also face judicial action. This behavior will be interpreted at the discretion of the officials.
