Summer Orientation

Summer Orientation

Are you packed? Do you have what you need? Do you know where you’re going? Are you ready?

Whatever the case, Walsh Summer Orientation will prepare you for the next 4 years, which we hope will be the
“Ride of Your Life.”

You will discover that Summer Orientation is packed with purposeful activities. During Summer Orientation you will learn a great deal about the Walsh campus, enjoy an unforgettable overnight experience, a incredible mentalist performance, a skit by current Walsh students and much more. Because Orientation is integral to your success as a student, attendance is mandatory.

During the morning of Friday and Saturday you will participate in Placement Testing for English, Math and a Foreign Language. Nursing and Business division majors will take an additional placement test specific to their program. The information obtained from these placement tests will be used to develop your academic schedule for the Fall 2008 semester.

However, Orientation isn’t just about testing and scheduling classes, it is about meeting new people and welcoming you to Walsh University. Orientation can be an amazing experience, just look at what current students are saying…

“I really enjoyed the night and having a chance to experience dorm life”

“If I wasn’t sold on Walsh before I am now. Everyone was so helpful and friendly!

“Orientation directors (leaders) were awesome!”

Don’t worry if you’re a little nervous or confused about Orientation; a great group of current Walsh students will be there to help you along. Orientation Leaders are upper-class students who are there to alleviate your fears, answer your questions and give you great practical advice on success in college. They are excellent students and people you will remember in your years at Walsh.

You may be wondering about your family, are they invited? We encourage you to bring your parents along. There are programs and activities designed just for them. Parents can attend sessions addressing Financial Aid, Health Services, Campus Security, Parking, our Career Services and much more.

Upon the completion of Orientation you will be able to navigate the detours, handle the curves, and develop a map for your next four years and beyond.  Get ready for the "Ride of Your Life."

Opening Weekend

Opening Weekend takes place the Saturday and Sunday before classes begin. During Opening Weekend you will experience move-in (resident students), meet with your GE100 class and professor, enjoy our very popular “A Day in the Life” skit, nightly entertainment, and much more. Please note that Opening Weekend is the beginning of academic classes for freshmen students so attendance is mandatory.

GE100 Course

All traditional freshman students are required to successfully complete GE100. GE100 is a 1 credit course that meets for 10 weeks in the fall semester. In a sense, GE100 is a continuation of Orientation into the first semester and is designed to further connect students to the University. The course covers multiple topics including the Walsh Cavalier Center, Walsh technology, the Library, diversity, self-awareness, team-building, debate and discussion, presentation skills, and much more. The course has a relaxed feel and is designed to be enjoyable and fun.
