TEACHER PREPARATION PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS
In addition to admission into the university, LEAD Program students also satisfy pre-professional requirements for admission into the Teacher Preparation Program. Confirmation of readiness to advance into higher-level education classes (300 and 400 level) is demonstrated by completion of the Core Education Courses and through the submission and verification of the following:
- Evidence of mastery of basic skills through successful completion of the Praxis I Math, Reading, and Writing tests.
- A background check clear of any offenses that would preclude licensure.
- Completion of the Core Education Courses: *
*EDUC 107, School and Society;
*EDT 606, Teaching Learners with Special Needs or EDUC 206, Differences and Diversity;
*EDT 601, The Computer as an Instructional Tool or EDUC 208, Instructional Technology;
*EDF 601, Psychology of Learning or the undergraduate equivalent.
- Successful completion the Iowa Tests of Education Development: Written Expression; Reading; Quantitative Thinking (must pass all three tests).
- Maintenance of a cumulative minimum GPA of 3.0.
- Evidence of Education and content area GPA minimum of 3.0.
- Completion an Affidavit of Good Moral Character.
- Submission of Career Objectives.
- Developmental Portfolio
- Presentation of three Walsh University faculty recommendations (two from Education).
* LEAD Program students can choose to take either undergraduate or graduate level courses to complete the Core Education Courses
