Several years ago, a gentleman called the Habitat office with inquiries into the workings of the Habitat ministry. He went on to say that his parents had passed away recently and according to their wishes, a charitable foundation had been established. Although the family had lived most of their lives in the Akron area, the father had been born and raised in Canton. He had entertained the family with stories of fondness for his Canton roots.  It was always apparent how special his feelings were for his hometown. They were especially pleased that we built in neighborhoods of decline and part of the benefit of Habitat new construction, is the revitalization of the inner-city.  Since the man's father had grown up in the inner-city, they were happy to see the beginning of restoration.

The name of the Wildflower Foundation was carefully chosen.  This humble family desires always to remain anonymous.  They shy away from any and all recognition.  They have never stopped by a construction site, nor have they ever attended a house dedication.  The now deceased parents had a passion for wild flowers, so naming the foundation with this in mind honors something they cherished while maintaining their privacy.
