Types of Financial Aid

Types of Financial Aid

Scholarships - Usually based on merit or special talents, these funds do not have to be repaid. Please check with each college to obtain application and deadline information, if applicable.

Grants - grants are usually need-based funds that do not have to be repaid.

Work - Work study is a job on your college campus. Students receive paychecks for the hours worked as they would in any other job.

Loans - These funds must be repaid, usually after graduation. Specific information about the various loan programs is listed on this site.


Sources of Financial Aid

Financial assistance (based on need) is awarded to students as follows:

Undergraduate Students

Grants (gift money that does not need to be repaid)

  • Federal Pell Grants
  • State Grants (Ohio Instructional Grant, Ohio College Opportunity Grant and Ohio Choice Grant)
  • Supplemental Education Opportunity Grants (SEOG)
  • Walsh University Grants and Scholarships
  • PHEAA Grant for PA residents (students receive a partial grant)

Loans (money that must be repaid)

  • Federal Stafford Loans (subsidized and unsubsidized)
  • Federal Perkins Loans (NDSL)
  • Parent Loan (PLUS)
  • Supplemental Loans
