Veterans Reading Group

Date(s): Apr. 29, 2013 - Apr. 29, 2013
Event Time: 7 PM - 9 PM

The Walsh University Veterans Reading Group will meet in room 203 of Farrell Hall. The group will discuss Pulitzer Prize-finalist S.C. Gwynne's "Empire of the Summer Moon: Quanah Parker and the Rise and Fall of the Comanches, the Most Powerful Indian Tribe in American History." Gwynne's nonfiction account details the place of war in Comanche life, as well as the Comanches' ability to hold off encroachments onto their land for decades, despite being wildly outnumbered oftentimes. Inasmuch, the text gives voice to aspects of warfare that are distinctly American, even if they are infrequently discussed as such.

All students and community members who have served in the military, as well as members of their families, are welcome to attend. Email Dr. Ty Hawkins at thawkins@walsh.edu for more information.
