Graduate Reading Endorsement Program
Do you have a passion for helping your students achieve reading success? Attain the most effective reading strategies and enhance your degree with a Reading Endorsement from Walsh University. Individuals who already hold a teaching license and are interested in adding the Reading Endorsement are eligible for the Pre-K through 12th Grade Reading Endorsement from Walsh University if they meet the following pre-requisite:
The individual has previously completed nine (9) hours of undergraduate or graduate level reading coursework if he/she holds an Adolescent/Young Adult (AYA), multi-age (at Walsh this would include physical education and ISE Mild/Moderate or Moderate/Intensive) or career technical license.
The individual must have previously completed twelve (12) hours of undergraduate or graduate reading coursework if he/she holds an Early Childhood Education (ECE), Middle Childhood Education (MCE) or Early Childhood Intervention Specialist (ECIS).
The Reading Endorsement can be added to any license after successfully completing the required coursework and passing the two required Ohio Assessments for Educators (OAE) sub-tests (test numbers 038 and 039).
The Reading Endorsement program involves a total of 18 credit hours consisting of the following courses:
- EDT 650 Developmental Language and Literacy
- EDT 651 Methods of Teaching Developmental Reading
- EDT 652 The Principles and Practices of Teaching Phonics
- EDT 653 Reading Assessment and Intervention
- EDT 654 Reading in the Content Area
- EDT 655 Clinical Practicum in Reading
