The Walsh Athletic Department recently honored Baseball Head Coach Tim Mead for his career milestone in achieving 800 wins, the most in program history. The ceremony took place on Tuesday, April 23, during the Cavaliers' doubleheader against rival Malone University. Walsh went on to sweep both games, winning 3-1 and 14-12.
"The name of Coach Tim Mead is synonymous with Walsh baseball. His 800th win is a monumental achievement that recognizes Tim’s commitment to Walsh University and our student athletes over a 36 year career," said Vice President for Athletics Dale Howard. "The entire University community is proud of Tim and this achievement."
Mead reached this career highpoint earlier in the season during the March 16 baseball game against the Battlers from Alderson-Broaddus in a 12-inning ballgame. Walsh clinched the victory with a final score of 4-3. The extra-inning win marked Coach Mead’s 800th career win at Walsh University.
Coach Mead is a 1981 graduate of Walsh, where he starred in both baseball and soccer. He was inducted into the Walsh Wall of Fame in 1983 for his contributions as an athlete. Now in his 36th year in the Cavalier dugout, Coach Mead has guided the baseball team to its third consecutive postseason appearance. He is also Walsh’s career leader in coaching wins for men’s soccer, in which he has won 306 games during a 29-year run, which he ended in 2010. Combined, he has achieved 1,122 coaching wins, and was selected Coach of the Year nine different seasons between the two sports. In addition, the NAIA Baseball Coaches Association honored Coach Mead with the 2017 Robert E. Smith Lifetime Achievement Award at the American Baseball Coaches Association Convention.
