Dr. Jacqueline Fawcett, the internationally recognized authority on conceptual models of nursing and nursing theory development, was honored with Walsh’s Betty Neuman Award during the 2015 Nursing Research Day on October 16. Presented by the Byers School of Nursing, the Betty Neuman Award recognizes distinguished service in the nursing profession. Dr. Fawcett is only the second recipient of this award which was founded in 2014 and named for Ohio native Dr. Betty Neuman, author and creator of the Neuman Systems Model.
Dr. Fawcett, a professor at the University of Massachusetts, Boston, is the author of several texts concerning conceptual models of nursing and the connections between research and theory. Recognized internationally for her meta-theoretical work, she serves on multiple editorial boards and co-edited the last two editions of The Neuman Systems Model with Dr. Neuman.
Sponsored by the Walsh University Phi Eta chapter of Sigma Theta Tau and the Byers School of Nursing, the 2015 Nursing Research Day featured a keynote address from Wendy Gotschall, DNP, RN, NE-BC, as well as posters and presentations from other noted speakers.
Employed at Aultman since 1988, Dr. Gotschall is currently the Chief Operating Officer of the Aultman Outpatient Facilities and a Board Certified Nurse Executive. She has served as the President of the Northeast Ohio Organization of Nurse Executives and represented the region at the state level at the Ohio Organization of Nurse Executives. A 1991 graduate of the Aultman School of Nursing, Dr. Gotschall earned her BSN from Malone University in 1996, her MSN from the University of Akron in 1999 and her Doctorate of Nursing Practice from Walsh in 2014.
