Walsh Establishes Servant of the Servants of God Scholarship in Honor of His Holiness
Rome, Italy: Walsh University President Richard Jusseaume and First Lady Theresa met with His Holiness Pope Francis during the Wednesday, May 10, Papal Audience at St. Peter’s Square in Vatican City. During their meeting, President Jusseaume presented Pope Frances with the newly established Walsh University student scholarship named in honor of His Holiness.
The Servant of the Servants of God Scholarship will be awarded to a deserving Walsh University student who displays the qualities and characteristics of servant leadership combined with a fervent dedication to doing God’s work on earth. Most importantly, this scholarship will be given to students below the poverty line who otherwise could not afford a private Catholic higher education.
This special opportunity was made possible by the Papal Nuncio Archbishop Christophe Pierre, who visited Walsh University on April 30. Archbishop Pierre was awarded a Walsh Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters and served as this year’s Walsh Commencement Speaker.
The Jusseaumes along with Father Nathan Cromly and Walsh Director of Strategic Initiatives Derrick Wyman are currently leading a spiritual pilgrimage of 13 Walsh University students through Italy and France. The students were in attendance at the Vatican to witness this historic moment.
