Indoor Track & Field athletes Sarah Berger and Kaitlyn Barber were recognized with NCAA Division II All-American honors at the March 12 Indoor Track & Field National Championship Meet in Pittsburg, Kansas. Sophomore Sarah Berger became Walsh’s second NCAA Division II First Team All-American as she finished fourth place in the mile run. The 2014-15 Female Athlete of the Year did so in record fashion as she once again broke her own school record with a time of 4:49.49.
For the first time in indoor competition, Second Team All-American honors were given to athletes that placed ninth through 12th at the National Championships. As a result, sophomore Kaitlyn Barber became Walsh’s third athlete to be named All-American. Barber finished 10th in pole vault in the meet’s opening day. Her best vault cleared 3.81 meters, or 12-feet-6-inches.
Three All-Americans in Track in Three Years
Berger and Barber join former Cavalier Stephanie Foster as the only athletes to earn NCAA Division II All-American status. Foster earned the accolades twice in the pole vault at the Indoor and Outdoor National Championships in 2014.
