Walsh Honored Nationally as a College of Distinction

For the ninth consecutive year, Walsh University has been honored as a National College of Distinction. Walsh also retained its status as one of only five colleges in Ohio to be recognized as a 2019-2020 Catholic College of Distinction. Walsh joins The University of Dayton, Ohio Dominican, Mount St. Joseph and Xavier University as the only Ohio Catholic colleges recognized by Colleges of Distinction for offering environments that are conducive to spiritual growth while preparing students for the future. Walsh degree programs in Business, Nursing and Education and the University’s Career Development program were also honored for their committed implementation of High-Impact Educational Practices.

Walsh was recognized a 2019-20 National College of Distinction for creating a truly unique learning environment where students not only earn college credit and valuable life experience, but also participate in character-building. This award is unique among popular college guide classifications, which typically rank schools on the basis of hollow or unclear numbers like the size of endowment, selectivity, and faculty salaries. Colleges of Distinction’s selection process consists of detailed interviews and research for each institution’s freshman experience and retention efforts alongside its general education programs, career development, strategic plan, student satisfaction, and more. Schools are accepted on the basis that they adhere to the Four Distinctions: Engaged Students, Great Teaching, Vibrant Community, and Successful Outcomes. 

Catholic College of DistinctionAccording to, some of the "secular" advantages of Catholic school include smaller class sizes, a greater focus on students’ individual needs, and faculty and staff who do a great job preparing their students for careers and graduate schools. While founded in Catholic faith, these schools are welcoming to students of all religions and backgrounds as well as those with no current religious affiliation.

Since 2000, the Colleges of Distinction website and guidebook have honored schools throughout the U.S. for their excellence in undergraduate-focused higher education. The cohort of schools in the Colleges of Distinction consortium distinguish themselves through their focus on the undergraduate experience.
