Session Recordings & Course Materials

You will be receiving an email from your course instructor that will provide you with a link to a folder which will be updated throughout the course with a recording of each session and any course materials that the instructors will wish to distribute. Please refer to the folder for course materials to review as needed.  

In order to ensure you have the best possible experience, it is important for you to participate in each session and in the sequence outlined in the schedule.  Unless you have been otherwise directed by your employer to miss certain sessions due to work responsibilities, please make your best effort to be at every session.  If you do need to miss a session that has not been previous identified by your employer, please contact Dr. Dan Passerini.  You will be provided with a link to the recording of the session with a short quiz to make up the session via independent study.   Please complete the viewing of any recordings and the related quiz prior to the next scheduled session.  If you participated in the session via Zoom, you will not be required to watch the video, but you will have access to it and are encouraged to watch them if you would like to review or reinforce your understanding of the material.

Course Description and Learning Outcomes

Course Description

This course will introduce the practical concepts of Data Analytics and basic statistics and applications within the context of a manufacturing production line and lean manufacturing practices. The program is designed to present core skills in utilizing Microsoft Office Suite tools like Excel to clean data sets and create simple charts and graphs for visualization of pertinent data. There will also be a brief introduction to data governance and data security. Participants will learn how data concepts are used to create company efficiencies. The course includes examples and use cases which help to demonstrate how participants can practically employ data concepts in their everyday work experience on existing company systems. The course will be presented to match existing participants’ skill level and then develop forward. The program is highly interactive and includes significant time for Q&A, discussion and explanation.

Course Objectives and Learning Outcomes:

Upon completion of the course, participants are expected to be able to:

  • understand fundamental concepts of data and analytics
  • understand Data Intuitiveness and basic concepts of statistics
  • use basic Excel functions to create visualization tools for better decision making
  • identify how production line data can be analyzed and communicated to improve company efficiencies, profit and safety
  • understand basics of Data Governance - how it’s used and why it is important
  • understand basic concepts of Lean Manufacturing and how basic analytics can be used to create efficiencies
  • communicate effectively about data - different styles and techniques
  • identify how data can be analyzed and how that translates to increasing your company's competitiveness and success
