Walsh University and the Stark County community welcome international dignitaries
Walsh University is hosting a U.S. National Security Policy Panel with World Leaders on Tuesday, September 5, at 7 p.m., in the Cecchini Center Alumni Arena as part of its Presidential Thought Leadership Series, a lecture series which brings well-known visionaries from around the world to Walsh’s campus to enrich and invigorate the campus and greater community.
The event will feature a world-class panel discussion including General Philip M. Breedlove, USAF, Ret., 17th Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR) 2013-2016, Ambassador Francis Campbell, British Ambassador to the Holy See 2005–2011 and Personal Secretary for Prime Minister Tony Blair, 2001–2003, and General Tod D. Wolters, USAF, Ret., 19th Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR), 2019–2022, and will be moderated by Dr. Joe Wood, National Security Advisor and Chief of Staff for Vice President Dick Cheney, 2005–2009. The policy panel discussion will be introduced by Dr. Tim Collins, the Seventh President of Walsh University, retired Air Force fighter pilot and graduate of the renown National War College.
“As a Catholic institution of higher education and a community asset, Walsh University has a duty to educate our citizenry and to inhibit the true skills of intelligent citizenship: debate, deliberation and discussion,” Dr. Collins said. “Our goal with the Presidential Thought Leadership Series is to offer intellectual opportunities, a platform which is free and open to the public, to discuss issues of national importance, to consider and engage with new ideas and approaches that challenge the steadfast opinions we all carry, and to grow in ways that will make us more informed citizens and a more grateful community. It is also an opportunity to engage on a personal level with first-rate, serious-minded people.”
The Presidential Thought Leadership Series centers on the intellectual life which has been the hallmark of Catholic higher education for more than nine centuries and showcases renown academic, business and public service leaders, and innovative visionaries from around the world. This year’s convening of top-tier academics, military personnel, intelligence professionals and policymakers will delve into the on-going Russian military operation in Ukraine in the European, global and educational contexts, while offering insights on leadership qualities to consider when electing political candidates as well as the role of an informed citizenry in our Constitutional Republic.
The panelists will be on campus throughout the day participating in guest lectures for Walsh University students and staff ahead of the event. In addition to examining aspects of the U.S. national security strategy, including diplomacy and evolving threats, students will hear about how these leaders developed their careers and faced challenges in leadership roles.
The event is free and open to the public; however, tickets are required for general admission and must be reserved online by August 25, at www.walsh.edu/leadershipseries. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.
