Walsh University Appoints Jami Swain ’12 Director of Human Resources & Culture

Walsh University has appointed Jami Swain ’12, the Director of Human Resources & Culture. She was recently awarded the 2023 Crain’s Cleveland Business Excellence in HR award for Employee Experience and Retention. Reporting to the President, this position will play a key role in setting and executing human resources strategy and supporting the goals of the organization.

Swain is a Human Resource leader with over 20 years of experience, including developing performance management systems, improving employee relations and culture, launching training initiatives as well as other management, recruitment, payroll and benefits experience.

For the past seven years, she has served as Director of Human Resources and Employee Development at The City Mission, a faith-based nonprofit in Cleveland.  Prior to The City Mission, Swain served as the Director of Human Resources and Donor Relations at Stark Community Foundation until 2016.  She was also the HR Coordinator at The Salvation Army, Summit County Area Services in Akron, for more than eight years.

Swain earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration and Management (Human Resources) from Walsh University in 2012.  She is currently completing her Master of Labor Relations & Human Resources (MLRHR) at Cleveland State University and is on track to graduate in 2024. Swain is also a Society for Human Resources Management (SHRM) Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) since 2015.
