Walsh University Appoints Alana Thompson as Director of Financial Aid

Walsh University appointed Alana Thompson as the Director of Financial Aid, effective immediately. In this role, she will oversee the Financial Aid Office, managing the compliance and awarding of federal, state, and institutional financial aid to students within the Finance department.

Thompson brings over 12 years of experience to Walsh University. Having served in various financial aid roles at Kent State University, she has consistently demonstrated her commitment to ensuring students have access to the financial resources they need to pursue their education.

Throughout her career, Thompson has been instrumental in streamlining financial aid processes, organizing large-scale events, and providing valuable resources to students. Notably, as the Assistant Director in the University Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid at Kent State University, she spearheaded initiatives to enhance financial aid advising for study abroad programs, advocating for students' access to global learning opportunities. Her dedication to student success and her passion for higher education make her an ideal fit for Walsh University.

“I am eager to leverage my extensive experience to streamline office operations and provide easy-to-understand financial aid materials to students. My goal is to enhance efficiency and accessibility, ultimately empowering students to navigate their financial aid journey with confidence and ease,” Alana Thompson said.

Thompson holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Hospitality Business from Michigan State University and a Master’s Degree in Higher Education Administration from Kent State University. She is a distinguished graduate of Kent State’s staff leadership training program, the Institute for Excellence, and holds a Graduate Certificate in the Internationalization of Higher Education from Kent State University. Thompson has also earned multiple credentials from the National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators.

Beyond her professional accomplishments, she is actively involved in volunteer work and serves as a trustee for the Sicilian American Women’s Club in Summit County. Her commitment to serving her community reflects Walsh University's values of service and leadership.
