The Hoover Historical Center is Proud to Represent Ohio Ingenuity on the Innovation Trail

Walsh University’s Hoover Historical Center is now featured on the Ohio Innovation Trail, a statewide showcase of the Buckeye State’s creativity and invention as part of the America 250 celebration. Highlighting more than 80 destinations, the trail celebrates Ohio’s impact on industries from football to household technology—including the modern vacuum cleaner, invented in North Canton. The Hoover Historical Center tells the story of James Murray Spangler’s first electric suction sweeper and The Hoover Company’s vision, preserving a local innovation that changed homes worldwide. Operated by Walsh University, the museum welcomed 3,000 visitors last year from 21 states and three countries.

Museum Studies students at Walsh gain hands-on experience at the Hoover Historical Center, leading tours, assisting with events, and supporting research that brings the Hoover legacy to life. Ohio’s only undergraduate Museum Studies major provides students with real-world experience at institutions like the Hoover Historical Center, preparing graduates for careers in museums, archives, and cultural institutions.
