Each year, the Office of Student Activities recognizes the hard work of the student organizations and their advisors through the Student Organization Excellence Awards. This year two awards were presented: The Organization of the Year and Advisor of the Year. The Advisor of the Year award recognizes an individual who has done an outstanding job in their role as an advisor to a student organization. The Organization of the Year award recognizes the student organization that demonstrated flexibility, initiative, creativity, and perseverance.

The Advisor of the Year award recognizes an individual who has done an outstanding job in their role as an advisor to a student organization. This individual dedicated their time to share their expertise with the student organization, supported student planned events and programs, and challenged the critical thinking process of the group. This year’s winner was nominated by multiple students who said: 

“They always put their heart into all of their work. They have worked tirelessly with the club to host various events and is always the biggest supporter. No matter what ideas the club brought, they would always use their experience and resources to support the board in making the events come true. They are not only our advisor and professor but also our mentor.  They are helpful and kind.” 

The 2022 Advisor of the Year is Professor Betty Marko, advisor to Education Club.  

The Organization of the Year award recognizes the student organization that demonstrated flexibility, initiative, creativity, and perseverance. This organization has made meaningful contributions to students, the University, and/or the surrounding community; and organized activities, events, and programs that have had a significant impact on the quality of campus life at Walsh. This year’s winner was nominated by multiple individuals who said: 

“They have been a pivot leader in transforming Walsh University to an environment for students to develop a sense of belonging. They have done a great job of putting on meaningful events and are incredibly active on campus. Their members are nice and welcoming to those not in the club and engage all people. They are not just an organization on campus but a community of people who help you feel at home. “
