Walsh University’s online Master of Arts in Education in Reading Literacy supports educators committed to strengthening reading instruction and literacy development. The program emphasizes research-informed practice and practical strategies that help teachers support students at varying levels of reading proficiency.
This program prepares experienced teachers to assess reading literacy, as well as develop, plan and implement reading programs to assist the diverse needs and abilities of students. Courses can be completed online or in the traditional classroom setting.
Upon earning a Master’s in Education degree with a focus in Reading Literacy, graduates often go on to be reading specialists, literacy coaches, or classroom teachers.

Graduates may work more closely with students, teachers, and instructional teams to assess reading proficiency, implement evidence-based strategies, and support literacy development across grade levels.
As of May 2024, instructional coordinators—roles that often include literacy specialists and curriculum-focused educators—earned a median annual wage of $74,620. This exceeds the median salaries for K–12 teachers, which range from $62,310 to $64,580.
