On Monday, January 19, Walsh University marked its annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service, bringing together more than 300 students, scholar-athletes, faculty, and staff to honor Dr. King’s enduring legacy of justice, faith, and service to others.
The day began on campus with a gathering in the Cecchini Center, featuring remarks from Walsh University President Tim Collins and a keynote address by Jaden Baxter ’23, former Cavalier football captain, scholar-athlete, and current Special Assistant to the Mayor of Cleveland for Community Engagement.
Following the program, participants fanned out across Stark County to engage in hands-on service with local organizations, supporting children, seniors, families, and community programs. Their efforts reflected Dr. King’s belief that leadership is measured by service and that faith is lived through action and a commitment to justice.
Blouin Scholars, Honors students, and Walsh University Athletics exemplified the University’s mission to integrate scholarship, reflection, and service. The day showcased how learning and leadership are strengthened when rooted in a commitment to human dignity and the common good.
Walsh University continues to honor Dr. King’s legacy throughout the week as part of its Dignity in Action: The Year of Faith initiative, hosting additional programs and service opportunities for students and the campus community.
