Walsh University’s Collegiate Purple Star Designation Renewed

Walsh University is proud to announce that its Collegiate Purple Star designation has been renewed by the Ohio Department of Higher Education (ODHE), affirming the university’s ongoing commitment to serving students with military backgrounds. Walsh is among nine colleges and universities in Ohio to receive renewal of the designation this year for strong support of military-connected students.

Over the years, Walsh has maintained a strong commitment to military service members, veterans, and their families, supporting military-connected students through its Yellow Ribbon Program, Top Ten Military Friendly® School recognition, the on-campus Center for Veteran Affairs, along with a dedicated Veteran Affairs Coordinator, Josh Ruiz.

“We are delighted that Walsh University continues to be recognized for its support of student veterans and service members,” said Ruiz. “Walsh University remains among Ohio’s Collegiate Purple Star campuses because of its commitment to helping military-connected students access the resources they need to succeed.”

Ohio was the first state in the nation to offer the Collegiate Purple Star designation, which builds on the state’s broader Purple Star work supporting military-connected students. The designation is valid for three years, after which schools may apply for renewal. A total of 51 colleges and universities across Ohio now hold an active Collegiate Purple Star designation.

Colleges and universities in Ohio apply for Collegiate Purple Star status through an advisory process that reviews criteria such as a dedicated military/veteran point of contact or office, priority registration, student surveys, and opportunities for student-led veteran organizations.
