Amara Shomali
Class of 2019
Major: Government and Foreign Affairs
Minor: Peace Studies and Criminology/Sociology

As a Running Start Congressional Fellow, I had the honor of working for Senator Susan Collins in Washington, D.C. Throughout my fellowship, I experienced something new and exciting every day. I had the opportunity to explore a wide variety of issues from agriculture to international development. My duties included researching legislation, attending briefings and hearings, and drafting memos. The research and writing skills that my professors taught me have been absolutely critical.

Working on Capitol Hill has been a transformative experience and a powerful way to launch my career. As I take on my new Staff Assistant position, I will continue to build on the foundation that my professors, Dr. Berry and Dr. Davis, helped me lay. The Government and Foreign Affairs program grew my passion for all things politics and widened my perspective of the world.
