Academic Scholarships

Walsh University Academic Transfer Merit Scholarships

Walsh awards incoming full-time transfer students with scholarships and merit awards based on their academic credentials:

  • Transfer Scholarship (Overall College GPA: 3.5 or above): $16,000
  • Transfer Scholarship (Overall College GPA: 3.0 – 3.49): $15,000
  • Transfer Scholarship (Overall College GPA: 0.0 – 2.99): $13,000

*Transfer students admitted Fall 2023 and on will receive one of the merit scholarships listed above*

Walsh University Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship

Students who are a part of Phi Theta Kappa honors society will automatically receive our $12,000 Transfer Merit Scholarship and an additional $1,000 Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship

Ohio Transfer Council Scholarship

Each year, transfer scholarships are awarded to transfer students through the Ohio Transfer Council. The Ohio Transfer Council will award three one-year, non-renewable $1,000 scholarships. The application deadline is June 30.

Walsh University Institutional Grants

Residence Hall Grants

Available to students residing in the residence halls. A FAFSA must be filed to determine eligibility for this need-based grant.

Walsh Grants

Available to commuter students. A FAFSA must be filed to determine eligibility for this need-based grant.

Choose Local: Stark County Resident Scholarship - $2,000

This renewable scholarship is for any transfer student who is a Stark County resident. This scholarship will be added in addition to any other institutional grants and scholarships that have been received.

Northeast Ohio Resident Scholarship - $1,000

This renewable scholarship is for any transfer student who resides in the following counties: Ashtabula, Carroll, Columbiana, Cuyahoga, Geauga, Holmes, Jefferson, Lake, Mahoning, Medina, Portage, Summit, Trumbull, Tuscarawas, and Wayne. This scholarship will be added in addition to any other institutional grants and scholarships that have been received.

Faith-Based Awards

Catholic College Grant

Walsh University offers the Catholic College Grant of $1,000 to entering full-time transfers. Students must be transferring from a Catholic College and meet Walsh University’s admission criteria.

Campus Ministry Scholarships

Funded by the Brothers of Christian Instruction, this scholarship program seeks students who actively commit to the mission of Campus Ministry through exemplifying their faith in Jesus Christ.

Talent Based Grants and Scholarships

Athletic Grants

Athletic grants are awarded to outstanding athletes who agree to participate in an intercollegiate sport for the University. The number of awards and the amounts are determined by coaches and the Athletic Director.

Choir and Band Scholarships

Awarded to students with outstanding vocal and/or instrumental abilities who will participate in the University Chorale or band. The numbers of awards are determined by the Director. Students who are interested should contact the Director of the Chorale or Band.

Legacy Awards

Children of Alumni Are Very Special (CAVS) Grant

A $1,000 grant will be awarded to full-time dependents of Walsh University graduates and must be enrolled full-time in undergraduate courses. CAVS Grants are renewable for four years.

Sibling Grant

A $1,000 award will be granted to brothers or sisters entering as full-time undergraduate students, of any dependent student currently enrolled full time in an undergraduate program at Walsh University. An award for multiple siblings is also available.

Federal and State Grants

Federal Pell Grant

The Federal Pell Grant is designed to assist needy students to continue their education beyond high school. Grant amounts are reduced proportionately for students enrolled less than full time.

Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG)

This program is available to undergraduate students with substantial financial need. Preference is given to those students receiving a Pell Grant. Application is made each year by completing the FAFSA.

TEACH Grant

This federal grant is available to education majors who will teach in certain subject areas. This grant has the potential of turning into a loan if certain conditions are not met.

The Ohio College Opportunity Grant (OCOG)

Eligibility for this need-based grant is determined by the state of Ohio at the time the FAFSA is filed. It is available to Ohio residents attending Ohio schools.

Walsh University Advancement Scholarships

The majority of these scholarships are for current Walsh students, however, there are some that incoming freshman and transfer students can apply for. Please contact your Admission Counselor, in regards to which scholarships you would be eligible for.
