Finding His Voice, Building His Future

Like many first-year students, Xzavier Macron arrived at Walsh University with more questions than plans. “I got an offer and just wanted to play football and make friends,” he recalled. What he discovered instead was a community that recognized his potential and encouraged him to grow into it.

A Sports Management major and member of the Walsh football team, Xzavier chose his field of study because he wanted to remain connected to athletics and help others succeed in sports. As a student-athlete, he embraced opportunities for personal and academic growth while building meaningful relationships across campus. “I like talking to everyone and getting to know people,” he added, a mindset that helped him quickly find a sense of belonging at Walsh.

Early in his college journey, his First-Year Experience course helped shape his approach to student life. “FYE showed me how my college years would go and what I need to do,” he said. Mentors also played a significant role. Head Football Coach John Fankhauser became “someone I can go to for anything,” while Megan Huston, Director of Culture and Belonging, provided crucial academic support and guidance.

Beyond the classroom and the football field, Xzavier channeled his creativity through YouTube, documenting his college experience and connecting with others. “I like going around, making videos, meeting new people, and working with them,” he shared. His outgoing personality and authenticity helped him build strong connections and grow in confidence. “I feel like I’m different, and I’ve learned to be confident in who I am. I’m always going to be myself.”

Reflecting on his time at Walsh, Xzavier said college had transformed how he views his future and his ability to make an impact. “My time at Walsh has helped me understand that I can make a difference in the world if I stay focused on my path and keep working toward my goals. I see myself doing big things one day.” He credited his coaches, teammates, and campus community with helping him grow not only as a student and athlete, but as a person of character and values. “My football coach shaped me and showed me how to be a better man now and in the future. Being around my team has made me better.”

Looking ahead, Xzavier hopes to pursue a professional football career or become a social media influencer, using his platform to inspire others and create new opportunities. “I want to create a path so others can see that it’s okay to believe in yourself and chase your dreams,” he said. He drew motivation from both challenge and encouragement. “Every setback pushes me to work harder because I want to succeed. Hearing my family encourage me reminds me why I keep going and motivates me to be my best.”
