At Walsh University, learning extends far beyond the classroom. Study Beyond invites students to explore the world—across the United States and across the globe—through academic travel, cultural immersion, and service-based experiences that transform the way they learn, lead, and understand their place in the world.
Rooted in the global vision of the Brothers of Christian Instruction, Study Beyond helps students grow as compassionate leaders with the cultural awareness, adaptability, and perspective needed to thrive in an increasingly interconnected world.
What Is Study Beyond?
Study Beyond is Walsh University’s global and experiential learning initiative. Through short-term faculty-led programs, semester experiences, domestic immersion trips, and international internships, students develop the knowledge, independence, and confidence that come from engaging with diverse cultures and communities.
The Office of Culture & Belonging leads this work by providing opportunities for students to broaden their horizons, challenge their assumptions, and build meaningful global connections.
Our goals include:
- Demonstrating the impact of global service on students, the Walsh community, and the world.
- Increasing opportunities to engage with diverse cultures through programs in multiple destinations.
- Developing learning communities that promote servant leadership and global citizenship.
- Positioning Walsh University as a nationally recognized institution for global engagement.
Why Study Beyond?
Travel is more than an experience—it’s a catalyst for growth. Students who participate in Study Beyond programs gain both academic credit and invaluable life skills.
Our students develop:
- Greater independence and self-confidence
- A broader understanding of cultural customs, traditions, and worldviews
- Increased cultural humility and global awareness
- Opportunities to learn or strengthen a new language
- A competitive edge with employers seeking globally minded graduates
Beyond academics, cultural immersion allows students to see the world through a new lens. They return to campus with a deeper understanding of themselves, an awareness of global issues, and a renewed sense of purpose.
